Breck Heather Light

Breck Light was inspired by Annemarie's time spent on a residency on the Orkney Islands in 2019, organised by The New Craftsmen. Almost no trees manage to grow on The Orkney Islands, so historically inhabitants needing to weave objects had to be resourceful with the plants which do- Oats, Straw and Heather.

For the Breck light, we attempted to tame the wild nature of Heather. Heather is not a plant which can easily be woven with, we wrestled with it and, however we approached it, we struggled to get the upper hand. So, eventually we constructed Breck Light as a celebration of the wildness of nature. It brings a glimpse of the The Orkney’s wild power to the most refined interiors.
